WELCOME

Welcome to the HVO website! August 1, 2011, is the kick-off to a year of celebration - HVO's 25th anniversary. As I look back over the years, I am amazed by all that has changed in that time
with the coming of the digital revolution we now have computers, e-mail, the Internet, cell phones, and Facebook. While these technologies have changed the way we communicate and interact with our 80+ project sites, HVO's mission remains focused on the education, training, and professional support of health care providers in resource-poor environments.
As the Joint Learning Initiative stated in their report, Human Resources for Health: Overcoming the Crisis:
There are not enough health workers, they do not have the right skills and support networks, they are overstretched and overstressed, and are often not in the right place.
Each year, HVO sends nearly 500 volunteers to share their skills and knowledge and, 25 years on, we are able to see the impact these volunteers have made. We remain committed to continue our education programs to improve the availability and quality of health care in developing countries.
Please explore our website and be sure to look at the section devoted to our 25th anniversary. There you will find stories and photos of 25 years of transforming service. We welcome your involvement - as a volunteer, a donor, and an advocate.
Sincerely,

Nancy A. Kelly, MHS
Executive Director
