NURSING EDUCATION
Nursing education is central to HVO's nursing programs. Therefore at HVO, we are seeking experienced nurse educators and nurse practitioners (with master's or doctoral level credentials) for formal nursing education positions. BS prepared nurses with several years of relevant clinical experience who are comfortable with formal teaching are most welcome as clinical mentors and teachers. Areas of experience include, but are not limited to, care of people with diabetes, stroke, end-stage renal nursing with dialysis, mental health and psychiatric nursing, burn care, newborn care, care for children on ventilators, general pediatrics, ICU nursing, medical/surgical nursing, and women's health.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope (SHCH)
Volunteers provide lectures and clinical instruction to Cambodian nurses at SHCH. Volunteers also lead journal club discussions. Volunteers must have a Master's degree in nursing or be a certified adult or family nurse practitioner. Volunteers need at least 2 years of teaching experience in nursing, with expertise in a specific area. Assignments are 2 weeks.
Siem Reap, Cambodia Angkor Hospital for Children
Volunteers work to improve the quality of nursing care by educating clinician-educators. Volunteers provide instruction to senior-level nurses to allow them to become expert teachers of the remainder of the nursing staff. Subjects include teaching methods, surgical nursing, curriculum, normal newborn care, assessment skills as well as other topics. Volunteers must be registered nurses, have a minimum of a master's degree in nursing and at least 2 years teaching experience in pediatric nursing. Pediatric nurse practitioners are sought. Those with a bachelor's degree and extensive teaching experience in nursing may be considered. Assignments are a minimum of 2 weeks.
Vellore, India Christian Medical College (CMC)
Volunteers collaborate with the CMC nursing faculty to develop their expertise in specific areas such as advanced clinical, academic, and research competency; curricula consultation for nurse practitioner programs; instruction in educational technology and nursing informatics; and clinical mentorship experiences for faculty in specialty areas such as end-stage renal nursing with dialysis care. Volunteers must have a Master of Science in Nursing Degree, with a PhD preferred. Family and Pediatric Nurse Practitioners are sought. Assignments are a minimum of 2 weeks.
Mwanza, Tanzania Bugando Medical Centre
The volunteers' role is to improve clinical knowledge of the nurses in ICU and/or perioperative nursing. Volunteers must be ICU or perioperative (theatre) nurses or must have 3+ years of acute care medical/surgical experience. Experience in education or orientation planning or in a preceptor role is preferred but not required. Masters degree or graduate level experience preferred but BSNs with at least 3 years medical/surgical, ICU, and/or perioperative experience will be considered. Assignments are 3-4 weeks.
Kampala, Uganda Mulago Hospital and Makerere University
Volunteers focus on improving the quality of nursing care in specialty areas by working collaboratively with clinician-educators, faculty, and nursing students to advance nursing education at Makerere University and Mulago Hospital. Volunteers are also needed to establish a model program for clinically based pediatric nurse specialists and develop teaching modules for pediatric nursing. In-service education is also provided in areas such as psychiatric nursing, diabetes care, and oncology. Depending on the identified objective, qualifications range from strong clinical background in priority areas and/or mid-level management skills to those with Master's degree and/or equivalent clinical experience. Nurse Educators are sought. Assignments are 3 - 4 weeks.
