Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Addis Ababa University

Volunteers will work with current CRNAs and Anesthesia School instructors at Addis Ababa University to provide master's level training to an initial group of ten masters of nurse anesthesia students and participate in the development and updating of the curriculum recognized by the MOH. Most of the volunteer's time will be spent supervising and training in the OR with some time also spent providing lectures laid out in the curriculum. Final year residents and fellows may be considered for an assignment. This program will recruit both CRNAs and MDs. Volunteers will be sent in pairs of two and assignments are divided in either two or four week blocks each month.

Vellore, India - Christian Medical College (CMC)

Volunteers assist in providing advanced clinical training in a wide variety of subjects to residents and members of the Department of Anesthesia. CMC is a well-equipped facility and care at this major medical center includes open-heart, kidney transplants, major neurosurgery, laparoscopy, and microvascular surgery. Volunteers must be board eligible/certified and have a current license to practice anesthesia. This site is best suited for academic anesthesiologists, especially those experienced in training anesthesia residents. Final year residents and fellows may be considered for assignments. Assignments are 2 - 4 weeks.

Lima, Peru - EsSalud Hospital System

Training includes neuro and pediatric anesthesia, open heart procedures, acute and chronic pain management, and regional anesthesia. Volunteers also provide more basic training such as pre-anesthesia testing, standard monitoring, anesthesia for emergency surgery, non-operating room anesthesia, laparoscopic surgery and post-anesthesia care. Volunteers must be board eligible/certified and have a current license to practice anesthesia. Final year residents and fellows may be considered for assignments. Assignments are 1 - 4 weeks.

Mthatha, South Africa - Mthatha Hospital Complex

Volunteers provide clinical training, lectures, and presentations to junior anesthetists, trainees, and rotating medical students, and co-treat patients through instruction. A wide variety of specialty areas are needed as the anesthesia department sees about 9,000-10,000 cases per year. Volunteers must be board eligible/certified and have a current license to practice anesthesia. Final year residents and fellows may be considered for assignments if accompanied by an attending. Assignments are a minimum of 2 weeks.

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics

Volunteers are needed to upgrade anesthesia provider skills. Volunteers will conduct training through lectures, clinical demonstrations and by providing anesthesia literature on a variety of subjects. Final year residents and fellows may be considered for assignments if accompanied by an attending. Assignments are 2-4 weeks in length.
