HVO KNOWLEDGE NETWORK — KnowNET
The HVO Knowledge Network (KnowNet, for short) is a web-based password protected workspace developed in order to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and knowledge. The KnowNET is open to all HVO members and to our colleagues at our 70+ training sites around the world. The KnowNET is also designed to better facilitate communication between and among volunteers, program directors, staff and our colleagues at our sites. In addition, the KnowNET will be our primary mechanism to orient volunteers for their overseas assignments.
Workspaces have been developed to cover all our program areas. Currently we have the following workspaces fully operational: anesthesia; physical therapy and rehabilitation; orthopaedics and hand surgery; dermatology, wound care and burn management; internal medicine, pediatrics and hematology; oral health and nursing education.
There is a wealth of material provided on our various workspaces about each of our programs, more than what is available on our web site. Every program has a folder which typically contains the following – the program description; background materials such as how to obtain a visa, previous volunteer's hints and suggestions; volunteer lectures, copies of curriculum, trip reports from previous volunteers, etc. There are also resources on global health and international development trends. For example, there are links to useful resources available from the World Health Organization as well as articles of interest from publications like Foreign Affairs and The AMA Journal on Ethics.
